Digging
the canoe
Here
Andrea is preparing the hole to be patched, Curtis helps.
Mikes
dad Cedric Billy uses the electric planer to cut the
hole straight so that it will be easier to patch.
The
patch is measured out and placed into the canoe.
Then
planed to match the rest of the canoe.
So
that we don't dig too deep into the canoe we place dowels
into the bottom (all the same size). Then dig on the
inside up to the dowels.
Using
the adze and the electric planers we make it even from
dowel to dowel. To do the sides it is easier to have
the canoe on its side, do the same is to to the other
side then the floor is done.
The
canoe is next turned right side up.
Steaming the canoe will be next. |
